Scott Wright reveals why he left Rangers for Birmingham City after stunning St Andrew’s start
He enjoyed a stunning start to life at his new club with a stoppage time winner to send St Andrew’s wild.

Scott Wright has revealed why he left Rangers for Birmingham City.
Philippe Clement cashed in on the attacker as part of his summer rebuild at Ibrox. The 27-year-old was involved under the Belgian in the early part of this season with outings in the Champions League third qualifying round clash with Dynamo Kyiv and also two Scottish Premiership outings against Hearts and Motherwell. Ibrox team-mate Ben Davies already made the switch for the campaign on loan to St Andrew’s while Celtic did a deal to allow Tomoki Iwata to depart for the Blues.
Wright made the perfect start to life at Birmingham City after firing home a 91st minute winner in front of his new fans as he set the crowd and home bench wild with a big three points against Wigan Athletic. They are one of the big favourites to go straight back up to the English Championship and have kicked off the season under Chris Davies – formally at Celtic and Tottenham – with three wins and one draw from four outings in the third tier.

Explaining his move south, via Birmingham Live, Wright said: “I was getting game time at Rangers but I just felt like it was time for a new challenge for me. Once I had spoken to them it was a no brainer. Coming and being part of this project and this journey was something that really interested me. I signed on the Friday and it came up on Tuesday or Wednesday, so it really moved at a fast rate, but after having conversations with my family and my wife we thought it was going to be the right step for me.”
It comes after he took to social media a couple of days back to send a farewell message to Rangers. He labelled his time in Govan as an ‘honour’ and thanked the club for memories he could only have dreamed of creating. He posted: “I look back at my time with Rangers with such fond memories. I had moments and experiences I could only have dreamed of as a young boy.
