Rangers could play at least two extra games at Hampden Park against St Johnstone and Hibernian before their complete return to Ibrox, according to Keith Jackson.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (4 September), the Daily Record journalist reported that if the Gers don’t manage to get their safety certificate in time for the Hibs game, they could well be stuck at Hampden for that clash.
The Glasgow-based outfit are set to return to Ibrox to play their League Cup quarter-final against Dundee but, as season ticket holders don’t need to be accommodated for cup games, it makes a return to their home ground viable.
“What I will say is from conversations I’ve had earlier today (Wednesday, 4 September), Hampden is not off the table for that game [versus St Johnstone],” Jackson said.
“But, as far as I’m led to believe, there is no concrete commitment to that game going ahead at Ibrox. I’m told that Rangers have got to accommodate the season ticket holders [for league games].
“[For the] Dundee game, they are going back to Ibrox but that’s not in the season book, it’s a cup quarter-final and they can play that in front of three stands and accommodate who they think they need to.
“If, however, a safety certificate is not passed for the game against Hibs, and then subsequent games after that, there is this still live possibility that Rangers might be going back to Ibrox for one game and then going back to Hampden.”

For what feels like far too long now, the Gers haven’t been able to play at their home ground due to a delay in their Ibrox renovation.

Since near the start of the summer transfer window, it’s been known that Rangers wouldn’t be starting the season in their home ground.
The Gers’ return has also been continually delayed which has left the club somewhat red-faced and, although an agreement was made for the Glasgow-based outfit to hire out Hampden, it feels as if the entire debacle has gone on for far too long.
Although playing in a stadium that isn’t Ibrox shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all for the club, there’s no doubt that the Ibrox atmosphere would have improved Philippe Clement’s chances of getting better results in the league.

If Ibrox was a viable option for Rangers to play in, the club might have been able to take less of a financial blow in terms of European competition prize money had they managed to make the Champions League proper.
The entire situation needs to be resolved as soon as possible otherwise things could go from bad to worse at the club.
