Derek Ferguson has been left baffled by Graeme Souness’ “bizarre” comments after Rangers’ Old Firm showdown with Celtic.
Philippe Clement’s side were pulled apart by Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops as they lost 3-0 at Parkhead on Sunday (1 September) in their final Premiership game ahead of the September international break.
Regardless of the result, Souness took to talkSPORT (2 September) to list several statistics to suggest the game wasn’t one-sided, much to the bemusement of Ferguson who was quick to disagree.
Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (5 September, 17:22) Si Ferry said: “I saw Graeme Souness talking about the possession and all of that.
“A lot of Rangers’ possession was in their half of the pitch, Celtic’s possession was in Rangers’ half of the pitch wasn’t it.”
Ferguson replied: “I saw a clip of that, I thought it was bizarre. I’ve just seen a clip of it back and I thought no I don’t get that.”
What did Graeme Souness say about Rangers clash v Celtic?
Even the most optimistic of Rangers supporters would have had to admit that Clement’s side were simply outclassed by Celtic at Parkhead in a game that demonstrated the gap between the two sides.
Although there may be some statistics that suggest the Gers gave their Glasgow rivals a good game, the result and the eye test showed that there is a lot of work to be done for the Light Blues to claw their way back into the title race.

Of course, there were big moments in the clash that could well have changed the outcome had they gone the other way, but such moments were incredibly few and far between as the Hoops almost had complete control.
Pundits like Souness and even the Gers boss can attempt to be as positive as they would like, but the majority of supporters will know that the display was incredibly sub-par.
Hopefully, things will improve off and on the pitch after the international break otherwise, the pressure will immediately be on Clement and his players.
