Kenny Miller hurt by Rangers in honest Old Firm admission
Kenny Miller has admitted that it “hurts” to see Rangers falling behind their rivals after their 3-0 Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic.
Speaking to the Monday Club podcast (17 September), the former Gers and Celtic striker expressed his concern on the current proceedings at Rangers, who trail behind their rivals on and off the pitch.
Miller was no stranger to a goal in Glasgow, scoring for both sides in derby matches, but feels Celtic are levels above the Gers right now.
He said: “I don’t think the team or the club are in a great way. It’s not been a great start to the season.
“It was the worst time to get that Old Firm game. If you lose that then you’ve got two weeks of chat that people need to fill and they are all going to be talking about that last result. Unfortunately for Rangers at the moment, Celtic are moving away. That’s my genuine opinion and it hurts me to say it.
“When you look at the last couple of days of the transfer window, Celtic just flexed their muscles. They spent £11million then another £6million on the lad Auston Trusty as well. And then they are on the bench for the game they are already winning 3-0 in, and by the way, it could have been more.”
How do Rangers catch up to Celtic?
There are a number of reasons why the Light Blues aren’t at the level as their rivals at the moment, and there is room for improving throughout the club.
The departure of John Bennett as chairman for health reasons means the very top of the hierarchy needs addressing swiftly, while James Bisgrove has not yet been replaced since leaving as CEO for Saudi Arabia.

Recruitment has also been an issue with some big earners moved on but little recuperated in transfer fees, while future gambles, loans and cheap deals were the strategy of the summer.
Manager Phillipe Clement has also had his future doubted, although the board remain fully committed to the coach (Chris Jack).

The level of uncertainty at the club will likely be disrupting performances, and trailing by five points in the Scottish Premiership, there is a lot to be worked on if the Glasgow side want to challenge their city rivals.
