Rangers told they deserve better than Dave King as ‘psycho-drama’ verdict emerges at Ibrox
Rangers supporters have become “fatigued” with an “angry” Dave King who has become obsessed by Celtic, according to Keith Jackson.
The Daily Record journalist [17 September, 12:30] claimed on the Record’s Sport Hotline that whilst Gers fans will entertain King’s desire to return as chairman at Ibrox due to his contribution to the club’s most recent glories, others will remember the issues from his previous reign and prefer someone fresh to replace John Bennett.
Jackson explained that King believes the fanbase wants to hear a rallying cry to outmuscle Celtic moving forward, but that it comes across as fruitless, agitated and obsessed and fans don’t want anymore “psycho-drama”.
He said: “I think many of the Rangers fans have got Dave King-fatigue. It appears the main thing that’s worrying him right now is that Celtic might overtake them in trophies won historically – just take that as read, by the end of the season that’s exactly what will happen.
“He thinks by obsessing about Celtic, he’ll bring the fans together but what Rangers fans actually want is the club to be run properly, professionally and without the psycho-drama that he brought to them last time around, before heading for the hills.
“All he’s coming out with, we’ve heard it all before. It’s all the same angry, aggressive stuff and I think Rangers deserve bigger and better than that.”
Rangers fans want stability
It’s as simple as that – all Rangers fans want is a club they can be proud of, a club whose senior figures justify the size of the institution they operate.
Far too much shoddy work has taken place upstairs at Ibrox to the point fans have rallied against directors, managers and players, whilst Celtic seemingly merrily skip towards scooping another Scottish Premiership title.

King is one of those characters who falls into the ‘bittersweet’ category in Govan – his role in the club’s 55th league title, in appointing Steven Gerrard and giving the fans some respite from the previous domination of their bitter rivals cannot be underestimated.

But it isn’t ignored – that isn’t the issue – it is acknowledged, while there is simultaneously a hope that new life is breathed into the club. Too much devastation has occurred for the bulk of Gers fans to consider delving back into the controversial past.
As Jackson says, the fanbase want their club to act like exactly who they are – and the reinstallation of figures who did not deliver that consistently enough would not constitute progress in the eyes of many.
