Dave King Rangers suggestion ‘wildly misleading’ as reminder on decision he made shared
Dave King returning as Rangers chairman would not guarantee a quick fix, journalist Calum Crowe has said.
Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail’s print edition (page 70, 17 September), Crowe wrote that King is held in high esteem by sections of the Gers support over his role in appointing Steven Gerrard as manager.
However, he noted there was context even behind Gerrard’s title win, and pointed out King – who wants to return to the role to replace John Bennett – was also at the helm when the hugely unpopular Pedro Caixinha was appointed in 2017.
He wrote: “Many Rangers fans will always hold King in high regard, given his role in the appointment of Gerrard and the derailing of Celtic’s bid for 10 in a row.
“But, again, Gerrard won one trophy in three seasons. He profited from a Celtic team who suffered the mother of all implosions.
“King was also chairman when the club appointed Pedro Caixinha back in 2017, so any suggestion that he guarantees Rangers a quick fix is wildly misleading.”
How do Rangers end their woes?
Rangers are in a state of flux right now, there is no point beating around that particular bush.
There is a huge leadership void with CEO James Bisgrove having left for Saudi Arabia and yet to be replaced, while Bennett stepping down as chairman for health reasons means there is nobody at the top of the management tree.

Some Gers fans would welcome King having another crack at the chairmanship given he was the man to bring Gerrard to the club, an appointment that ultimately ended Celtic’s monopoly of the Scottish Premiership.
But things were not always rosy under his leadership and there is a school of thought that the Gers need fresh ideas and to reinvigorate their boardroom strategy, while other senior figures are thought to not be too keen on his return (Chris Jack).
If things are to improve on the pitch then the house needs to be in order off it and, frankly, right now that just simply is not the case.
