Philippe Clement to make Cyriel Dessers call for Rangers showdown v Dundee
Barry Ferguson has backed Philippe Clement to start Cyriel Dessers in an unchanged Rangers team against Dundee.
The Light Blues return to Ibrox for the first time this season for Saturday (21 September) afternoon’s Scottish League Cup quarter-final, as they look to pick up back-to-back wins in all competitions.
Although supporters and pundits have been crying out for Clement to hand Hamza Igamane a first start in Gers colours, Go Radio pundit Ferguson has backed Dessers to continue to lead the line.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (20 September, 14:45) he said: “I don’t think he’ll make any changes, none.
“I think he’ll try and keep a settled backline. A lot has been made of Igamane coming off the bench against Dundee United and he showed something.
“I would like to see him start, but I don’t think the manager will start him. I think he’ll go with the same starting XI that started against United at Tannadice.”
Will Hamza Igamane start for Rangers at Ibrox v Dundee?
While the League Cup will always be less of a priority to the Gers than either the Premiership title race or the Europa League, Clement will be desperate for his side to pick up a win on Saturday to build some sort of momentum at Ibrox.
The Gers simply aren’t in a position to rest and rotate their side each and every game. Clement doesn’t have loads of depth to utilise without making his starting XI much weaker.

Igamane definitely has earned a start with his displays from the bench against both Celtic and Dundee United on either side of the international break, but Dessers has been all but an ever-present since Clement arrived in Glasgow.

Maybe Clement could surprise Ferguson and the majority of Blues supporters and drop the Nigerian in favour of Igamane.
Stranger things have happened at Ibrox in the past, but it would certainly be a change of approach from the Rangers boss.
