Philippe Clement may struggle to drop Nico Raskin after what Rangers ace did v St Johnstone
Nico Raskin has somewhat struggled for game time since Philippe Clement’s appointment at Rangers nearly a year ago.
The Belgian midfielder only made 11 Scottish Premiership starts last season, with his appearances hindered by suffering a lengthy injury blow.
Clement has been attempting to build his minutes on the pitch back up, having started in league wins over Hibernian and St Johnstone, with an international break in the way before the Gers face Kilmarnock.
The 23-year-old seems to have caught the eye of a few fans during the 2-0 win over the Saints on Sunday 6 October, partnering Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron at different points of the game.
Raskin looks to be firing on all cylinders again, performing as well as he did with Standard Liege before earning a move to Ibrox in January 2023, and that could continue following his most recent display.
Nico Raskin earns deserved plaudits as Rangers beat St Johnstone
Having played the full 90 minutes in the middle of the park, Raskin was handed an 8/10 rating by Rangers News, citing his “outstanding performance” and “tenacious” tackling during the match.
Fans have every right to be delighted, or even surprised by his dominance in the middle of the park, maintaining a 91 per cent passing accuracy as he took 80 touches, completing 67 per cent of his dribbles, and made nine passes into the final third [FotMob].
Out of every player on the pitch, the 23-year-old entered into the most duels (20), winning the second-most with 11, but also losing the second-most (9), only to Gers teammate Jefte.

He also entered into seven tackles, and while he only won 29 per cent of them, he was an absolute nuisance against the Saints, an energy that Clement cannot afford to drop from his team.
While Diomande and Barron are the obvious choices to face Kilmarnock, it could seem unfair to drop Raskin after such an energetic performance at Ibrox.
