Rangers pulled the plug on a transfer deal to sign Jose Cordoba after noticing a lack of “passion” from the centre-back.
The 23-year-old, from Panama, had agreed terms with Rangers and even attended a match at Ibrox ahead of a proposed move to Glasgow.
But, Ibrox chiefs abandoned the deal over “doubts” spotted in Cordoba.
Director of football recruitment Nils Koppen has revealed Rangers did have an agreement with the player after transfer links throughout the summer.
However, the transfer guru explained that Cordoba’s move was dropped when it became clear that the player had some doubts over whether his future lay at Rangers.

Branding the situation “unfortunate”, Koppen stated a deal could not be completed by Rangers chiefs in good faith if the player was having any questions over the switch.

Koppen told the Rangers Review: “A lot of work had been done and we got to a point where everything was agreed.
“The player was here in Glasgow and attended a game but we didn’t really feel that passion to come and play for Rangers.
“While there was an agreement in place, we decided that we can’t have a player at Rangers who has already started to doubt if this is the best place for him before he’s played a minute of football.
“It’s unfortunate because of how much work goes into the process but at the end of the day, you need to ask are we comfortable with the situation?”
Cordoba would then go on to sign for Championship club Norwich City on a four-year deal. The Panamanian defender has played eight times for the English club so far this season.He has been capped on 19 occasions for his country.
