Paulo Bernardo admits his Celtic team mates are fired up for a mouthwatering top-of-the-table showdown with Aberdeen – insisting they’re ready to show why they’re Scottish Premiership champions on merit.
The Hoops face Jimmy Thelin’s Dons side, who have been in scintillating form themselves this season, sitting joint-top of the league standings alongside Brendan Rodgers’ men on 21 points from their opening seven games.

A win for either club at Parkhead this afternoon would see them move three points clear at the summit and playmaker Bernardo reckons it’s time for Celtic to seize the opportunity and stamp their authority on the title race.

Asked if the match gives Celtic a chance to showcase their champion quality, he stated: “Yes, in these types of games, against the second-placed team, they are really important for us as a team to step up in this championship this year. Last season is over, so we need to do it again this year.

“We want to win every game. So it’s not a statement, it’s just a game because next week we have another. It will be a great game too. They are doing very well this year and it will be great to play and to watch. It will be a difficult game. But yes, we are a big club and the big clubs have to win.”
Bernardo returned to Lennoxtown earlier this week full of confidence after another successful international camp with Portugal’s under-21 side. The midfielder captained his country in both matches, scoring against the Faroe Islands as they secured their spot at next summer’s European Championships.
It will be the second time in Bernardo’s career he has been involved in the tournament, admitting: “It’s exciting. I already went to the one before and it was good. But there was a feeling that we could go further in the tournament. It’s really exciting to play again and already have some experience to tell the other players too.”
