Rangers academy duo have last laugh after being deemed surplus to Ibrox requirements
Rangers fans are licking their wounds after the Ibrox side were defeated by Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.
In a potentially crucial weekend, Rangers blew their opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table in the 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park.
It’s heaped the pressure on Philippe Clement and Rangers’ new-look international squad as they struggle to cope with the rigours of Scottish football.
But there are two more homegrown talents who had the last laugh in Ayrshire this weekend after being deemed surplus to requirements in Glasgow.

Robby McCrorie had ‘no point to prove’ v Rangers
Heading into the match between Rangers and Kilmarnock, there was something of a subplot with goalkeeper Robby McCrorie.
Having come through the youth ranks at Ibrox, heading into the game McCrorie claims he has ‘no regrets’ with how his time at Rangers came to an end.
Claiming he did everything he could to convince the club of more regular game-time, the goalkeeper reiterated that his full focus is on delivering for Kilmarnock.
And deliver against Rangers the 26-year-old goalkeeper did with crucial saves from Vaclav Cerny and John Souttar to keep a clean sheet in the Rugby Park victory.

“I wouldn’t say (I have a point to prove against Rangers),” McCrorie told Sky Sports.
“To be honest, I did everything I could (at Rangers). I worked as hard as I can everyday.
“Some of the games I did play, they were some of the biggest games for the club so I performed.
“I don’t know if I could do much more than that. I was obviously frustrated but I don’t want to dwell on what’s the past.
“I’m here at Kilmarnock and I want to do my best for Kilmarnock and I’m looking forward, so I don’t think about that too much.”
This was the first time McCrorie has played against Rangers after leaving the club in the summer, with the goalkeeper’s social media reaction irking John Lundstram come full-time.
Ex-Rangers defender finds home at Kilmarnock
Robby McCrorie isn’t the only member of the Kilmarnock first-team with historic links to Rangers either.
Whilst Rangers have been told they slipped up when they failed to convince ex-midfielder Derek McInnes to become their manager, Lewis Mayo is another former Gers academy kid who secured some redemption this weekend.
The 24-year-old centre-back is another who came through the youth ranks at Auchenhowie but who never got his opportunity when push came to shove at Rangers.
After a series of loan moves the kid signed for Kilmarnock permanently in 2023 and is now a mainstay in the Ayrshire side’s starting XI.
Alongside McCrorie, Lewis Mayo kept Rangers’ lacklustre attack at bay to build a foundation for Marley Watkins to go on and deal a late blow to the Ibrox side.
