Auston Trusty speaks out after playing starring role in Celtic clean sheet against Atalanta
Celtic claimed a valuable draw away to Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night that saw Auston Trusty fully announce himself in green and white.
The United States international was brought in to start alongside Liam Scales in central defence amid Cameron Carter-Vickers’ absence on Italian shores.
As the tale went, Auston Trusty turned in an outstanding display for Celtic as the Bhoys prolonged their hopes of Champions League progression with a 0-0 draw in Bergamo, reliant on the contribution of the full squad.

In what went down as a Herculean effort from Brendan Rodgers’ men, they claimed a deserved stalemate at the Gewiss Stadium despite the previous anxiety from some amid the Bhoys’ recent drubbing in Dortmund.
Putting on a show of unrelenting spirit against last year’s Europa League winners, Trusty has now spoken out after his contribution on a night where the Hoops flipped perceptions.
Auston Trusty on Celtic’s draw away to Atalanta
Speaking after the match, Trusty revealed that Celtic always shared confidence they could get something in Atalanta and also opened up on facing future Champions League challenges beside Scales in central defence.
Firstly, he addressed the stalemate, stating [Celtic FC]: “It’s a big result. Playing away in the Champions league against a team like them it’s not an easy task. But we were up for it, we were confident and we knew we could come here and get something.
“We showed during the game that we could have got the three points, but in terms of confidence, this is big for us. This team has a lot of confidence with the history of the club, and after the Dortmund game, this is what we needed. “

Trusty later added on his relationship with Scales and facing RB Leipzig next at Parkhead: “We have good chemistry. I’m new to the club so I’m still learning everybody’s tendencies and characteristics but so far we get each other really well.
“That’s really positive when you go to a new club, being able to connect with another centre-back and the other defenders. I think it’s testament to Liam that he’s adaptable to me and the rest of the team being adaptable to me as well.
“We have to keep our confidence, and playing at Celtic Park is a change; it’s way different. To have 60,000 fans cheering for us and having our back and the atmosphere, it’s something that really helps the team, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Brendan Rodgers sends message to Champions League doubters
After Celtic suffered a heavy defeat in Dortmund, many felt they may need to change their style of play to achieve results against elite European sides in the Champions League.
Having the last laugh in the end, Brendan Rodgers elaborated post-match on the Bhoys’ approach, simply saying: “I’m not sure whether that was pragmatic enough for people tonight, I don’t know.
“We go out in every game to be structured and defend well; you want to get pushed back, but I think the confidence it gives you when you can defend against the best teams.”
Celtic set themselves up to claim something in Bergamo and duly delivered. Every man in the away dressing room deserves a pat on the back for their resilience shown on the night.
