Connor Barron WON’T be given the red-carpet treatment as he returns to Pittodrie for the first time as a Rangers player.
But ex-Dons star Michael Paton insists Aberdeen fans SHOULD give the midfielder a warm reception tomorrow night. The academy graduate is back in the Granite City for Wednesday’s box-office Premiership clash where his former club could move a staggering NINE points clear of Gers if they continue their unbeaten run.
Considering the bad blood between both clubs, it’s expected Barron will be jeered with every touch of the ball – just as hate figure Ryan Jack endured throughout his time at Ibrox after making the same move back in 2017.

However, ex-Aberdeen star Paton – who bossed Barron during his brief loan stint at Brechin City in 2020-21 – has backed the midfielder to block out the abuse and put in the same type of performance that has cemented his place in Philippe Clement’s midfield.
He said: “You’re hoping Connor gets a good reception, he gave his all for Aberdeen, it’s not as if he left not giving 100 per cent. These things happen in football, when you have that quality then bigger clubs come sniffing.
“Unfortunately for Aberdeen, a bigger club came in for Connor and he decided to move on for his career. I’m sure he’ll embrace it, he’s a strong character who just lets football do the talking. It’s part and parcel of the game, you have to deal with these things, that’s just the life of a footballer. If a few boos are going to put you off your game then you won’t go far in football.
“I’m sure Connor will be silently prepared for anything that’s going to come his way but once he’s on the park and has a ball at his feet any worry or doubt will go out his head. Connor is well up for the challenge no matter what it is.”
