Philippe Clement is ‘one match from the sack’ as Rangers prepare for a managerial change after a disastrous start to the season that’s left them nine points behind Aberdeen and Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the club hierarchy have been surprised by their poor start to the season and there would be ‘no way back’ for Clement, 50, if they lose their League Cup semi-final against Motherwell on Sunday (November 3).
Rangers’ 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen on Wednesday (October 30), their second consecutive away loss, leaves them well adrift of the top two spots in the Scottish Premier League.
It’s understood that the club have decided one further defeat this weekend will see the board finally pull the trigger on Clement’s time at the club.
The Glasgow club invested just over £14million in 10 new first-team players during the summer transfer window, while only recouping £2.5million, largely due to Sam Lammers’ sale to FC Twente.
Not only was he backed in the transfer window, Clement was given a new four-year deal in the summer, extending his stay at Ibrox until June 2028.
