Adam Pope wowed by Dan James after ‘Amazing’ moment for Leeds United v Plymouth
Daniel James’ superb strike left Adam Pope in amazement as Leeds United lead Plymouth Argyle 3-0 at half-time on Saturday.
Speaking live on commentary for BBC Radio Leeds (2 November, 3:33pm), Pope was stunned by the accuracy of James’ opening goal from 20 yards, particularly given he was off-balance.
The 26-year-old Welshman had been a doubt with a hamstring issue but was passed fit to play and set the tone for a dominant first-half display before Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson added to the scoring.
Pope said: “He’s leaning back – what he manages to get on it leaning back – he gets the accuracy and the power on it, amazing finish from James.
“A really lovely, smart finish into the top corner.”

With James, Piroe and Aaronson all getting on the scoresheet for Farke’s side in the first half, the German will be delighted at just how well his front four – including Willy Gnonto – is ticking.

While Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter took many of the plaudits last season – eventually both taking their leave with big-money transfers – James’ stellar numbers arguably went under the radar.

James’ 13 goals and eight assists were second only to Summerville and Rutter in those respective categories, and with the duo having now departed, he is absolutely one of Farke’s key men.
Injuries so far this season haven’t helped the Welshman to nail down his starting place on the right-hand side, but it’s clear that when he does play, Farke’s side are vastly improved in the final third.
Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani will of course put the pressure on James when they’re back in full starting contention, but in this kind of form, Farke will be in no rush to drop his lightning-fast talisman.
