Philippe Clement bad news shared by David Tanner despite Rangers win v Motherwell
David Tanner says it can only be “bad news” for Philippe Clement that his Rangers side will face Celtic in the League Cup final after beating Motherwell.
The Gers travelled to Hampden Park on Sunday (3 November) and, after going 1-0 down in the first half, goals from Cyriel Dessers and Nedim Bajrami secured the victory and a place in the final.
This has handed the under-pressure manager at Ibrox a chance to win a second League Cup with the Light Blues, but talkSPORT broadcaster Tanner – posting via X (3 November) – believes it is bittersweet.
He said: “The good news is, they’re through to a League Cup final. The bad news is, they’re up against Celtic.”
Philippe Clement gets some bad news at Rangers despite Motherwell win
It has been far from an ideal start to the season for the Belgian and his side which has seen him come under fire from all angles.
Supporters and pundits alike aren’t particularly sold on the 50-year-old and have questioned his credentials in the Ibrox dugout.
This certainly wasn’t helped by a defeat against Aberdeen at Pittodrie and was made even worse after going 1-0 down against Motherwell at Hampden.
Andrew Halliday’s tap-in led to boos at the half-time whistle, which was fair enough given the scoreline and performance in a semi final.

#Rangers eventually overcome #Motherwell but only after Dessers and Tavernier were hooked.

Clement’s blushes were saved as his side made it to the final but there is a chance he could be embarrassed all over again as he now prepares for a clash against Celtic in the final.
The ex-Genk boss is yet to secure a win over the Gers’ Old Firm rivals, with the last victory against them being in May 2023. It could prove to be another frustrating day at Hampden for the manager and the club if the performances do not improve drastically.
