“He’s Embarrassing Himself” – Souness Not Happy With Rangers Player’s Antics

Rangers legend Graeme Souness has labelled Fabio Silva a “diver” following his theatrics during the Old Firm derby at the weekend.
The former Gers player and manager was not best pleased with the Portuguese forward’s willingness to go to ground but he did defend him against criticism from Chris Sutton who questioned awarding the penalty in Silva’s favour:
“Silva is a diver, he’s embarrassing himself. But that was a penalty, the defender cut across his knees with his dangling foot. I can’t believe how biased Chris is when he’s talking about Rangers.”

It’s fair to say that the Wolves loanee didn’t cover himself in glory with his behaviour at Ibrox on Sunday. It is hoped that, in future, he is more willing to stay on his feet.
Former referee agrees with Souness’s verdict on the penalty
Souness claims it was “100%” correct for VAR to overturn referee John Beaton’s original decision and give Rangers a penalty for a foul on Silva.
Sky Sports pundit and ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher agrees that officials were right to change their minds on the incident:
“He [Silva] gets a yellow card for simulation but when you see it again, there is contact on the knee. It’s a penalty. The referee then has an even bigger dilemma. There’s pressure, he goes to the screen and gives a penalty.”
Where does the result leave Rangers?
After an abject first-half display, manager Philippe Clement would have been delighted by the response of his players in the second half. A draw may have not been what he wanted before kick-off, but it keeps his team in the driving seat for the title.
It is easier said than done but all the Light Blues need to do now is win their final 7 league games and they will finish above Celtic in top spot.
