The Lawrence Shankland to Rangers debate looks set to ramp up again ahead of the January transfer window.
Gers were tipped to swoop for the Hearts striker in January and the summer as he continued to plunder goals for them but it seemed Philippe Clement wasn’t that keen.
The 29-year-old has struggled to replicate his hitherto scintillating form this season and has found the net just once for the Edinburgh side.
But he is out of contract in the summer and so available on a pre-contract free transfer, or potentially for a knockdown price in January if the Jambos can be convinced to sell.

Lawrence Shankland to Rangers is a ‘no-brainer’
The chat was sparked up again this week as pundits Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart discussed whether the move might still be a possibility despite Shankland’s struggles.
Former Gers defender Hutton insisted he would still be happy to see the Scotland international becoming a Rangers player.
It has now been further discussed as former St Mirren and Hibs midfielder Stephen McGinn had his say.
He reckons Shankland would find his scoring touch in a Gers side and wouldn’t miss the amount of chances Cyriel Dessers does.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: “All day, all day. An absolute no-brainer.
“I think Lawrence Shankland would score every week for Rangers domestically.
“I don’t think he would pass up the chances that Dessers does.”
John Hartson was appearing alongside McGinn on the show and he tended to agree, but did point out it could depend on what Hearts would want as a fee in January.
They were still demanding up to £5million last summer with just a year left on his deal.
Hartson said: “The expectation has completely risen since last season with the pressure to go and do it for the second year. I’m talking 30-odd goals, I’m not talking 20. That was a huge, huge tally that he hit last season.
“Hearts, particularly, haven’t started the season very well. I think that’s been a major part in, obviously, the lack of opportunities, the lack of chances, the lack of all the good play that Hearts did last season in games, you know, crosses into the box, sliding the ball down the side, and Shankland’s great at finishing.
“Would I jump at the signing with only one real… Who are the other strikers? You’ve got Dessers who scored a very good goal the other night. Danilo just back from injury.
“It all depends what Hearts would demand in terms of a fee. What would it be? Because he’s out of contract, but yeah, listen, I would actually agree with Stephen [McGinn] sitting alongside me. I think he’d be a good signing. And I think he [hasn’t] just become a bad player. You know, a goal scorer can generally score goals at any level.
“And I would imagine that Rangers now competing, you know, for the title and cups and things like this, he’ll get a lot more opportunities at Rangers. So I’m in agreement that, if Rangers want to go in for him I think that would be a really great move for the player and the club.”
Hearts teammate thought Shankland was ‘outstanding’ at Rangers
Shankland led the line for Hearts at Ibrox at the weekend as they came close to a result.
His goal drought continued and the team in general were shot-shy, not really troubling Jack Butland despite being well in the game.
But his Hearts teammates are still appreciating the work the captain does for the side.
“We know Shanks’ qualities and I thought at Ibrox he was outstanding,” said Cammy Devlin. “The work he does for us as a team goes unnoticed so much like his link-up play.
“It’s about other players stepping up and taking the pressure off him in terms of goalscoring. He’s not always going to be finding the back of the net. I’m sure when he does it will start flowing for him.
“He’s just one player. There’s 10 others that need to grab it and take the pressure off him because he does so much for us. But at the same time, I’m sure when he starts scoring things will change.”
