Jefte criticism slammed after what was said about Rangers star, ‘Bit of a harsh comment…’
Joshua Barrie has leapt to Jefte’s defence after being slated for his Rangers performances so far this season.
The 20-year-old has become a popular figure at Ibrox since arriving on a £600,000 deal from Fluminense during the summer [Rangers Review], making 17 appearances in all competitions to date.
Despite being unable to notch any goal contributions yet and being sent off in a crucial Champions League qualifier, which was an unfair decision, he has filled in well for the injured Ridvan Yilmaz.
Speaking via The Rangers Review YouTube channel [15 November], Barrie said: “Bit of a harsh comment here, seeing as you know I’m such a Jefte fan. Timothy says, ‘What does Jefte actually offer apart from running with the ball? Has he even had a goal or assist so far this season?’
“At 20 years of age, coming into not a brilliantly performing team, he’s had one or two poor defensive moments but I think he’s been pretty good. He offers a lot.”
Jefte continues to develop after Rangers arrival
It will have likely been a rather difficult transition for the young player to make this summer, especially given the current state of the team under Philippe Clement.
However, Jefte has taken the challenge in his stride and the manager will now have a difficult decision to make on the left-back spot when Yilmaz is fit enough to come back into the side.
The 23-year-old Turkish international became a favourite for Clement last season but the player has been hindered by injury setbacks, seeing him make just two Scottish Premiership starts this term.

While Jefte’s displays can be a little rough around the edges, he is still learning and developing at a very young age and will continue to become a better player with more minutes on the pitch.
Fans must remain patient with him, but from the early signs, the Gers look to have found a decent left-back option to help Yilmaz and the rest of the defence.
In other Rangers news, Dave King’s manager plans have been foiled as an Ibrox-linked boss remains safe in his current job.
