Monchi has removed Aston Villa’s main transfer issue but still faces two decisions

Aston Villa have been built on security pretty much since Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens walked through the doors of the club over six years ago. Financial concerns were immediately alleviated and capital was invested at various levels of the club. Ambitions have been realised and the growth has been seismic, with still room aplenty for more.
At squad level, and indeed on the management front, NSWE have been alert to the requirement to remain on top of things. The subject of player contracts is something which is constantly moving over time, but NSWE haven’t hung around when action has been necessary.
The news that Morgan Rogers has agreed fresh terms this week with the club, even though Villa were in an existing position of strength having only signed him earlier this year, was significant on two fronts; not only are Villa’s potential and long-term ambitions things which young and talented footballer resonate with, but it is the latest example that NSWE are quick to reward players who are deserving of it.

Rogers has followed a host of players in committing their futures to Villa in the last 12 months or so; Jhon Duran, Emiliano Martinez, Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa and Leon Bailey are among those who have committed their own respective futures since the beginning of last season. Then there is Emery, of course, who extended his existing deal before agreeing improved terms a matter of weeks later.

President of football operations Monchi and director Damian Vidagany have remained on top of things since walking through the door, ensuring that Emery has only to concern himself with what goes on on the pitch and in training as he continues to work intensely with his players. The players, in the meantime, are generally content and settled as their respective futures are taken care of.
Villa have been highly successful in forming a structure in which the management unit and the playing squad can thrive – but of course there will always remain deals to oversee should they wish to, although in truth it remains to be seen whether new contracts are in order any time soon. Villa have Duran, Rogers and Ian Maatsen tied down until 2030 and Martinez, Jaden Philogene, Amadou Onana and Kosta Nedeljkovic until 2029.
Watkins, Konsa, Joe Gauci and Pau Torres currently have deals until 2028, and the cluster of Bailey, Matty Cash, John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey and Youri Tielemans until 2027. Much work has been done to ensure that the club aren’t approaching each and every summer with huge amounts of work to do on the contract front and it’ll pay dividends next summer when they can focus plenty on who might be coming through the door.
Indeed the only players currently out of contract will expect to leave the club. Robin Olsen could even return to his native Sweden before the summer, with speculation recently linking him with a move back to his homeland in the winter. Kortney Hause, who has been utterly luckless with injuries since he signed his last deal under Dean Smith – following that winner at Old Trafford – will also depart.
That Villa have a pretty straightforward outlook heading into 2025, aside from two more decisions to make one way or the other, is a testament to the groundwork which has been completed over the last 12 months.
