Peter Martin stunned by Scott Allan Rangers transfer claim
Peter Martin was left stunned by Scott Allan’s claim that Rangers could do with six or seven transfers to challenge for the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers’ start to this season has been disappointing to say the least and they currently sit third in the league and nine points adrift of Celtic and Aberdeen.
However, despite their slow start, presenter Peter Martin was taken aback when former Celtic midfielder Allan suggested how many players Philippe Clement still needs to be competitive for the title.
Speaking on PLZ’s The Football Show, Allan said: “To challenge for the league I think they need another six, seven.”
Martin did not hide his surprise at the claim, saying in an exasperated voice: “Six or seven? Rangers?”

But the 32-year-old defended his view as he continued: “I’m not saying win it. To give Rangers a chance where they can go on a run. Right now with the team, with the squad that they have I don’t, I wouldn’t be confident in saying Rangers could go five games in the league unbeaten with five wins.”
Allan predicts an uphill battle for Rangers
Allan was not holding back in his criticism of this current Rangers side with his analysis of the overhaul he sees as necessary for the Light Blues to give themselves any chance of competing for the title.
While Martin was initially shocked at these claims, when you look at the reality of the job on Clement’s hands with a big points gap between the Gers and the top of the table, there is no doubt that there is plenty that has to change to see a positive impact on the pitch.

With that being said, it is always a risk to make such a big number of changes in any squad especially halfway through a season and the hierarchy at Ibrox should be careful not to rock the boat too much and cause a divide in the dressing room.
Allan isn’t wrong when he comments on how far Rangers are from competing at the top of the table right now and inevitably there will need to be plenty of changes at the club in the long term to secure success going forward.
However, it could be a risk to make such big changes all in one go.
