Joel Piroe destined to haunt Swansea City v Leeds United, history doesn’t lie
Joel Piroe is unlikely to be greeted nicely by Swansea City fans when Leeds United travel to South Wales on Sunday.
The 25-year-old spent two years with the Swans, scoring 46 goals in 96 appearances, but switched to life in North Yorkshire in the summer of 2023 where he has netted 20 times in 65 games.
Piroe has become a much more important figure as the 2024/25 campaign has continued, especially after having to get used to a regular spot on the bench with Mateo Joseph trusted in attack.
However, with the young Spaniard lacking goals in the final third, Daniel Farke has turned his attention back to the former Swansea man and must do the same when Leeds face them on 23 November.
Despite being benched for the 2-0 win over QPR before the international break, Piroe still came onto the pitch for the final 20 minutes and hit the back of the net once again, registering his sixth of the season.

The attacking midfielder helped Leeds to 4-0 and 3-1 wins over the Swans last season, clearly playing a major role, and he has another chance to upset his former club at the Swansea.com Stadium.
With Sunderland facing Millwall and Sheffield United coming up against Coventry City, all three points could see the Whites move to the top of the Championship table by the end of this weekend.
Piroe, who journalist Adam Pope dubbed “phenomenal” [Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast], will feel he has more to prove after being dropped in the last game, and being stuck on the bench against his former team will not sit well.
The 25-year-old is currently the club’s top goalscorer this season despite only starting seven Championship fixtures but he has more than enough power to hurt the Swans on Sunday.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a huge promotion statement if they are able to finalise a deal for Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill.
