Nedim Barjami blasted in national newspaper despite Rangers win v Nice
Nedim Barjami was slated in the Scottish media despite Rangers 4-1 Europa League victory against Nice on Thursday.
The Gers comprehensively beat their French opponents to occupy the final automatic qualification spot for the round of 16 with fixtures against Tottenham, Manchester United and Union Saint-Gilloise to come.
Despite the victory, the 25-year-old was criticised by the Scottish Daily Mail [pg. 87, 29 November] for his performance in the contest, with Paul Forsyth giving the Albanian a rating of five, saying that he: “Got away with some sloppy work. Made poor decisions in attack and frequently failed to do his job defensively.”
The only Light Blues attackers to rank over a six and a half in Forsyth’s ratings was Hamza Igamane, who scored two goals and notched an assist.
Barjami needs to do more to secure Rangers starting berth
Barjami has six starts in the Scottish Premiership and two appearances off of the substitutes bench and has scored just one goal and also scored for his country in the recent international break (19 November).

If he wants to secure a permanent starting berth at Ibrox, his numbers need to improve, two goals in 11 starts is not good enough for a club the size of the Gers .

In his 80 minutes on the pitch in the contest with Nice, Bajrami had one shot, created one chance, had three touches in the opposition box and had a cross success rate of 25 per cent, completing just one of his four attempts.

Defensively, he made eight recoveries, two clearances, two interceptions and won two of his three ground duels for a 67 per cent success rate. However, he was criticised by club legend Ally McCoist on TNT Sports [28 November] for not closing down his opponent in the lead-up to a big chance for the Ligue 1 side.
Those stats suggest that the criticism of Bajrami for his performance last night is unfair but he must improve his goal return if he is to be trusted to start on a regular basis.
