Despite Newcastle United heading into 2026 occupying an unsatisfactory mid-table spot, Eddie Howe is apparently on Chelsea’s new manager shortlist.
It’s a testament to the long-standing job Howe has done at St James’ Park, with an EFL Cup now in the Toon trophy cabinet courtesy of the Englishman. He has also put Newcastle back on the map in European competitions, even if there have been many grumbles from the Tyneside masses about their inconsistent side this season.Liam Rosenior does look as if he is the Blues’ chosen man over the former AFC Bournemouth boss, with Howe surely more focused on turning around Newcastle’s fortunes across a bumper January to follow.
The hectic month ahead will allow Howe and Co to dip their toes into the always unpredictable transfer market, with several midfield additions rumoured to be on their agenda.Further rumours are circulating on Tyneside that Sandro Tonali could be off in the near future, with the hot-and-cold midfield presence this season being eyed up by the managerless Blues, ahead of a potential summer switch.
