Rangers will have been happy to say “good riddance” to Todd Cantwell after his last-minute transfer to Blackburn Rovers, according to Mark Guidi.
The English midfielder ended his 18-month spell in Glasgow on transfer deadline day as he completed a reported £500,000 move to the Championship with Blackburn Rovers having submitted a transfer request [Alan Nixon, 28 August].Although some pundits and supporters have suggested that the Gers should have held out for a larger transfer fee, the Sunday Mail’sGuidi has torn into the midfielder and suggested they should just be happy to have him out of Ibrox.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (30 August, 15:45) he said: “To be honest, I think it will be good riddance from Rangers.
“Absolutely good riddance. Tell me the number of games where he’s taken the game by the scruff of the neck and inspired Rangers in games where it really mattered. I can’t really think of any to be perfectly honest.The other thing is A when it is so public that the player wants to leave and B the club have banished him with the youth or the reserves or whatever, then right away your bargaining position in the market takes a dive.”
