Plenty of Rangers fans have been desperate to see time called on James Tavernier’s time at the club but supporters were united in condemning the supporter who turned up to hurl abuse at the captain at Ibrox on Sunday in the wake of the Old Firm derby defeat.
The 3-0 loss wasn’t easy for light blue legions to stomach and they are desperate to see a reaction. Tavernier is the man who will have to lead them but he was targeted and then confronted by a raging fan outside the Govan ground on their return to the stadium on Sunday. Ibrox legend Graeme Souness pleaded for calm and the actions of those who dished out the abuse has left some supporters sickened.
Bill Wilkinson, Airdrie, was not so happy about the recent abuse towards the team and said: “Regarding the so-called Rangers supporters who turned up at Ibrox to abuse their team, do they not realise how much the players were hurting? After a defeat from our biggest rivals the players needed to know the fans would stand behind them. What message does the abuse send to future signings never mind the new players who came in recently? I would like to think the real Rangers supporters will show the players how loyal Rangers supporters can be. As for the clown who abused Tavernier he should stay away as that is not the kind of person we want at Ibrox. Tav stuck by us when others didn’t.”

Derek Maclachlan said: “I’m a diehard Rangers fan and some of these players are really poor. James Tavernier looks past it. Mohamed Diomande is shocking and not worth £4.5million. Ross McCausland should be not in first team – he is very poor. Robin Propper is rubbish and drop Jack Butland and give Liam Kelly a chance.”
Jamie Thompson from Yorker, was also not impressed by the abuse, said: “I’m angry with Rangers players performance but for a supporter to abuse Rangers players was wrong. There is something wrong at Ibrox. The board, management team and players are all to blame. This is worst situation I’ve seen and it has to be sorted now.”
Celtic Supporter Nick Boyle from New York, had other things to say: “There is no crisis at Rangers. Crisis suggests a one-off emergency. Instead there’s simply the reality that Celtic are, and have been for more than a decade, dominant on and off the pitch.

Commenting on the managerial status of the club, Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “If the Rangers board have said they will not sack Philippe Clement then the answer is very simple – ‘Sack the board’ of useless hangers on who don’t know how to run a successful football club”.
Dr Robert Pender, said: “Does the Rangers and Man United manager sleep in the same bed? Both teams had same weakness, same manger excuses, same stats quoted. They must realise the supporters are not fooled. Yes Rangers are in a rebuild but let’s have honesty.
James Brown, Glasgow, said: “If Barry Ferguson is describing 60,000 Celtic fans celebrating as ‘a wee huddle dance’ how would he describe the Rangers manager and players celebration dance a couple of weeks ago at Hampden? And how would he describe the Rangers lap of honour after salvaging a 3-3 draw at Ibrox against Celtic last season? Pathetic.”
