Neraysho Kasanwirjo mentor shares main quality that can make him a success at Rangers
Rangers’ new signing Neraysho Kasanwirjo will bring a composure and calmness to Philippe Clement’s defence, says his former coach Danny Buijs.
Buijs, speaking to the Daily Record [5 September], outlined the strengths of Kasanwirjo’s game, after the Dutchman joined the club on loan from Feyenoord last week.
Clement may decide to shuffle his pack after the international break and bring him straight into the back line for a debut against Dundee United on 15 September.
Buijs, who signed Kasanwirjo from Ajax’s youth side for Groningen, said: “I signed Neraysho from Yong Ajax, you could see straight away he had been at Ajax because technically on the ball he was very good even at such a young age.
“On the ball he was really good, calm, could view a good pass. He really gave us a higher level on the ball. That’s his main quality and the most important thing was that he also developed his defending in and around his own box in duels.
“He can be strong, he is fast but sometimes back then he needed to read the game better or be more aggressive.”
Rangers given boost with Neraysho Kasanwirjo
A season at Ibrox will be a learning curve for Kasanwirjo, who can operate as both a full-back and centre-half, and Rangers can cast an eye over his development in the Scottish game.
The club hold an option to buy the 22-year-old at the end of the season, and need fast defensive improvements following the result against Celtic last weekend.

Lauded for his early performances in the Netherlands, Kasanwirjo will also provide much-needed competition to senior players who perhaps have not had to look over their shoulder as much as they should be.

Clement needs squad options and while he may feel as if the club did not secure all their targets in the summer window, he at least now has some selection dilemmas to work with.
As for the player, whilst Feyenoord are a huge club in his homeland, performing for the Gers faithful is a different kettle of fish and how he adapts to the pressure will offer a signal as to how he fares in Glasgow.
