Celtic put Rangers to the sword at Parkhead on Sunday, strolling to a 3-0 win to continue their unbeaten start to the 2024-25 Premiership campaign, and the gulf in quality between the Old Firm rivals was evident once again.
The Hoops will fancy their chances of retaining the title, with the Light Bears unlikely to be able to mount a stronger challenge this term despite doing some decent business during the summer transfer window.
Many have argued that Rangers do not have a player within their ranks capable of making it into the Celtic starting XI, with Kris Boyd going as far as to claim that four or five players from the Celtic bench would walk into the Rangers starting line-up.
Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness have weighed in with their opinions, with the former Light Blues manager insisting Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has what it takes to play in the Hoops XI ahead of Kasper Schmeichel.
Jordan could not believe the claim, visibly grimacing on the Three Up Front podcast on YouTube as seen 26 minutes and 40 seconds into the video.
Schmeichel joined Celtic from Anderlecht as a free agent in the summer and has kept four clean sheets so far in as many league games.
The Hoops are yet to concede a goal so far this term, and the presence of the one-time Premier League winner will make them stronger at the back.
Butland joined Rangers in June 2023 for free after his Crystal Palace contract expired, helping them win the Scottish League Cup at the end of the campaign.
The 31-year-old boasts plenty of experience just like his Celtic counterpart, and he is a quality goalie.
However, whether he can get into the starting XI of manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of Schmeichel remains up for debate, and the duo will look to lead their respective teams to silverware this season and going forward.
