Football Philippe Clement shares Danilo update ahead of Dundee Utd v Rangersby steven mangan14 September 2024
Rangers will resume action on Sunday after the international break when they face Dundee United away from Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers are missing two important players, Rabbi Matondo and Danilo, for this game, with the Brazilian likely to be out for over a month.
Philippe Clement has said to reporters, as quoted by the Scottish Daily Mail (14 September), that Danilo was really “unlucky” to have picked up an injury.
The Belgian boss has also added that the club initially thought that Danilo may have picked up a cruciate ligament injury, but that hasn’t been the case.
“Dani was the really unlucky one,” said Clement.
“He did it in a sprint, he slipped in a really bad way. We first thought it would be cruciate ligament, to be honest. Luckily, that’s not the case.”
Rangers must return to winning ways
The Gers will have to start winning games again after their disastrous 3-0 defeat against Celtic a fortnight ago.
As a result of that defeat, the Bears are now five points behind their arch-rivals in the Scottish Premiership. Clement is confident that Rangers can close the gap, but for that to happen, they need to win games and build momentum.
The Bears boss has made it clear again of the task lie ahead of them. As many as 16 players have left the club, and some of them on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.
Rangers do not have pots of cash to invest in the squad, and it wasn’t easy for them to replace departing players when they have cost money.
The Gers have signed eleven new players and reduced the squad age to 23. It will take time for Clement to integrate all his new players, but with plenty of games left to play in the league and cup competitions, there’s plenty to look forward to this season.
