Former Chelsea baller on Rangers radar can solve Philippe Clement problem after transfer ‘possibility’
Rangers ended the transfer window with Philippe Clement still short in one or two positions with options starting to run out.
The free agent market has been considered by the manager but players like Steven Alzate and Davy Klaassen have signed for new clubs, leaving the list of individuals who could make a difference even shorter.
One player, who saw his name linked in July, is Marco van Ginkel and the Netherlands international is still without a club as Rangers look to solve a problem position.

Rangers summer target Marco van Ginkel is still available
The Sun journalist Andy Devlin was the reporter who claimed that there was interest in Van Ginkel from the Ibrox outfit in the hugely experienced midfielder and claimed that he was a name being considered:
“Another player who is certainly on Rangers’ radar is the former Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel,” said Devlin.
“There is a bit of work to be done there. It remains to be seen if the player can be enticed to Glasgow.”
Devlin added: “He’s another player who is known to Clement and Koppen.”
Philippe Clement saw his Rangers side lose control of the middle of the park again against Dundee United and an individual of Marco van Ginkel’s quality could be a useful addition.

That Clement specifically addressed the number six role shows that the recruitment team might not be done yet:
“Yes, we talked about that within the club and that was the initial plan. So we now need to find solutions within the squad to do it in a different way to before.
“Could we still look at free agents? That’s still a possibility, yes. Connor Barron has been filling that role and Dujon Sterling can do it also, as can Nico Raskin.”
Van Ginkel would offer a voice in the engine room to provide guidance to the likes of Raskin, Barron and Mohamed Diomande.
All good players, but none of them are quite ready and able to consistently grab games by the scruff of the neck.
Money problems saw Van Ginkel depart Vitesse, but a CV that includes PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea and AC Milan is one that nobody else in Clement’s squad can seriously contend with.
With the money that has been saved on the wage bill from the departures of so many high earning senior players, there is room to add real, and no risk quality.
It doesn’t have to be a big commitment and, given that he is still without a club, Van Ginkel can’t be fighting off the offers.
Hopefully, Nils Koppen has picked up the phone to make a signing that would give the fans something to be encouraged by.
