Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies transfer twist emerges at Rangers

Rangers want to move on from Kieran Dowell and Ben Davies, but their efforts may not succeed in the upcoming transfer window.

The Gers are seemingly in for a major squad overhaul after what’s been a disappointing season, as Celtic won their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.

Barry Ferguson took charge of his final game against Hibernian on 17 May, which ended in a 2-2 draw, and while the interim manager seemingly wanted to stay, the Light Blues had other plans.

Birmingham City are keen on Dowell and Davies, but it remains to be seen whether a return to the League One champions is on the cards for them.

It’s been claimed that the future of the Bears’ duo is in limbo and will only be clarified once a new manager is appointed at Ibrox.

The Bears don’t have much time to waste and should have already decided on their manager after letting Ferguson leave.

Kevin Thelwell to oversee Ibrox squad overhaul next summer

Kevin Thelwell’s arrival at Ibrox as the new sporting director gives the Gers a massive boost, as they’ve been without someone in that position since 2023.

Once he leaves Everton, the Englishman will need to get to work immediately, as significant decisions need to be made at the Glaswegian outfit.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have already tasked Thelwell with looking for a new manager for the Light Blues.

Rangers have suffered an abysmal 2024/25 season, and fans have already grown weary of uncertainty at Ibrox due to the takeover.

While the American investors will likely arrive at the Glaswegian outfit soon, nothing has been made official yet.

Some of the Gers’ supporters would’ve liked to see Ferguson continue beyond the current campaign, but Steven Gerrard may be the hierarchy’s preferred candidate.

The Light Blues’ fans aren’t too keen on the Liverpool icon’s return to Ibrox despite his Scottish Premiership title win.

Hopefully, once the takeover is complete, the Bears’ managerial and recruitment policy will be more clear.
