Manager explains why Rangers signing won’t fall into pitfalls of Alfredo Morelos
Rangers didn’t make any money out of Alfredo Morelos for a number of reasons, but he is still the perfect example of what the recruitment team should be looking for.
Signing players from a lower level league comes with a risk, however, as shown with El Bufalo, it doesn’t have to be an expensive one.
This is what makes comparing Hamza Igamane to the Colombian striker an easy one to make given the relatively low fees paid for modern football, age and style of play.

Hamza Igamane development will benefit Rangers
There is one thing that sets the two Rangers strikers apart and why Igamane won’t be back where he started when he is at his peak.
Speaking to The Daily Record, the man who gave Igamane his big break, Sven Vandenbroek has been explaining why his former striker is destined for the top:
“The club where he played is an army club so, from the academy, they learn about structure, they have school, they have discipline. He went into the first team and for two years in a row he scored a lot of goals. He won the championship with his team so that catches the eye of a lot of clubs especially in France.
“Philippe didn’t speak to me before he signed Igamane but I think Rangers have enough people on the payroll to make these decisions. His skills and his potential is more than enough to be convinced to take him in and I think he’s already proving that by getting minutes in the first team at his age and this early in the season.”
Igamane can avoid same mistakes Alfredo Morelos made
To say Morelos suffered with discipline issues throughout his Ibrox career is something of and understatement.
MORE RANGERS STORIES
Every Rangers manager apart from Pedro Caixinha had problems with him and he then went to Santos with a similar attitude.
Talent will get a player so far but there is a reason why nobody touched Morelos when his Rangers contract expired.
On field discipline wasn’t the only problem either.
After every summer, Morelos arrived back at Auchenhowie and looked out of shape, his last two seasons saw his performance levels drop significantly and he was nowhere near as sharp as he had been previously bar from a three month period under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Igamane has taken a similar leap into the unknown.
He has signed for a club that he will have had no idea how big it really is.
Having made a good first impression, Igamane is the one player who fans are excited to see more of.
With discipline a key factor for players who want to make the top of the game, Igamane is in a good position to avoid the mistakes that Morelos made after going from zero to hero and back again.
