Rangers are braced for a summer of change on and off the pitch as they strive to make ground on rivals Celtic.

 

The Gers were considerably off the pace in the Scottish Premiership this season and are currently searching for a new manager.

 

 

 

As well as a new boss, the Ibrox club have prospective new owners in the 49ers, who also own Leeds United.

 

Reports have emerged involving the budget that the Glasgow club will have available this summer, which will prick the ears of the Rangers faithful.

The early season had so much promise for Rangers as they were keeping pace with eventual champions Celtic.

However, it all fell apart, and Philippe Clement was given the sack for the Glasgow club’s lacklustre form.

 

There was some salvation in Europe, with Rangers reaching the Europa League quarter-finals, but they were beaten by Athletic Bilbao over two legs.

The 49ers Enterprises plan to back Rangers with a higher transfer budget than in previous seasons, according to 49ers & NFL News 24/7.

 

This was shared on their X account on Sunday (25 May), which is followed by reputable accounts such as BBC Sport’s Chris McLaughlin.

 

They go on to say that this is a statement of intent by the new ownership to spend wisely and build a strong team.

Ownership must get manager decision spot on

While the Ibrox club must sign well, they must first make the correct call on their vacant manager position.

 

Barry Ferguson was in temporary charge since late February and did a respectable job while in charge of his dream job.

 

However, it is time for someone new and assured to guide the good ship Rangers through safe passage.

 

Steven Gerrard has emerged as the favourite for the Ibrox job and knows the club well after his previous successful stint.

 

During his previous spell, Gerrard guided the Gers to their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years.

 

However, there is scepticism from some sections of supporters about whether it would be wise to bring him back to Glasgow.

 

Whether they go with Gerrard or not, Rangers must appoint the right man and appoint him fast.
