Celtic and the Scottish Premiership midfielder worth profiling amid contract uncertainty
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will have an acute awareness of bargains to be had on the market as the Irishman looks to cement the quality of his squad.
The summer window yielded eight summer signings in total as the Bhoys strengthened their core with some fresh new additions.
Among them was Luke McCowan, who joined for £1 million from Dundee in a deal that bolstered Celtic’s homegrown quota for the first time in quite a while. Speaking after his exit, former Dundee teammate Lyall Cameron admitted is has been ‘hard’ to adjust to life without their star man at Dens Park.
He stated: “It is hard [playing without McCowan next to him] to be honest because I think we built a really good relationship in the middle of the pitch. We knew where each other was and obviously he came up with big moments and so did I.
“So I think we just got on really well and knew what the other person was going to do. Obviously losing him at that time of the season was tough.”
In light of his own recent form, Celtic could do worse than keeping tabs on the 21-year-old’s progress as the Scottish Premiership campaign rolls on.
Celtic could cast their eyes over Lyall Cameron’s progress
Hailing from the City of Discovery, Cameron enjoyed loan stints at Peterhead and Montrose before establishing himself at local club Dundee under Tony Docherty.
Starting this campaign in excellent form, the Scotland Under-21 international has registered three goals and five assists in his opening 11 appearances for the Dark Blues, carrying the torch after McCowan’s departure.

Per Fotmob, Cameron had already created 11 chances, made 148 successful passes, and won 19 duels in his opening four Scottish Premiership fixtures.
He has also carried out 23 recoveries and won possession four times in the final third, showing himself to be an all-action presence in the engine room.
With his progress clear for all to see after scoring five times in 36 outings last season, his contract situation is also under something worth looking into.
Cameron’s contract situation at Dundee
Intriguingly, Cameron’s Dundee contract is set to run out at the end of the season, a similar situation to McCowan before his move to Celtic was finalised.
Docherty previously addressed his situation earlier in the year, claiming that he wouldn’t be surprised if suitors came calling in light of his rise to prominence.
He told The Courier in April: “I think that’s natural. If you are doing well, of course you are going to attract suitors. I’m sure a lot of the team might have done that because there have been a lot of strong performers in the squad. But the focus is about performing for Dundee.”
Following a logic along the same lines as McCowan, Cameron would be a potential bargain homegrown pick-up with the added excitement of potentially developing into a first-team-ready player.
Undoubtedly, there will be several sides keen on the talent, but it makes sense to merely highlight that he could be one for Celtic to keep tabs on if they experience movement in midfield between now and next summer.
