Cammy Bell really encouraged by Rangers pair after Malmo win, they are ‘growing together’
Cammy Bell says Rangers will only grow in confidence if the partnership of John Souttar and Robin Propper continues to develop.
Bell was speaking after watching Rangers cruise to an impressive away victory at Malmo in the Europa League as they opened their league phase campaign with a 2-0 triumph.
It really should have been more for the Light Blues on a day where ruthlessness was lacking, but what they gave was enough to see off a surprisingly underwhelming Malmo side.
Nedim Bajrami scored after less than a minute on the clock before Ross McCausland wrapped up the three points with an accurate left-footed finish from outside the box.
But it was Souttar and Propper who helped keep a clean sheet on the night that impressed former Rangers goalkeeper Bell.

John Souttar and Robin Propper’s Rangers partnership
The pundit told the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast that it’s clear to see their defensive partnership is improving game on game and it’s only going to be a positive for Rangers.
Bell said: “I think Philippe Clement always says that you do need time, but you don’t get given too much time or too much from the fans certainly, the demands are always there.
“It was a brilliant result for Rangers’ confidence going forward, they’ve got a big game against Hibs on Sunday that they need to back it up with.

“If you look at the partnerships on the pitch, I really like how Souttar and Propper are growing together, the understanding between them and (Jack) Butland as well.
“So all of these partnerships are growing and it’s really going to give Rangers confidence going forward and there’s loads of positive signs from last night.
“As I said, the only criticism was they weren’t ruthless enough and I think when you face better opposition, you’re going to have to put the ball in the back of the net when you get those opportunities.”
Stats prove Propper and Souttar were impressive
Propper and Souttar were the two central defenders who struggled to cope with Celtic in the Old Firm derby defeat at the start of the month.
But in the three games since, they have been pivotal in Rangers keeping three consecutive clean sheets against Dundee United, Dundee and now Malmo.
Propper was ranked the fifth-best Rangers performer against the Swedes by FotMob while Souttar gained a 7.1 match rating.
The Dutchman made six clearances – four of which were headed – and made five successful defensive recoveries during the game.
Souttar won 100% percent of his aerial duels (4/4) and contributed to the attack by supplying two passes into the final third of the pitch.
