Star who broke Rangers transfer record has ‘doubtful’ future at Everton as £16m ace faces uncertainty
He swapped Rangers for Everton almost three years ago.
Nathan Patterson’s future at Everton has been placed in the doubtful category, as the Rangers star looks to make a Goodison Park comeback.

The Ibrox academy graduate broke Rangers’ transfer record at the time in 2022 when joining the Premier League side in a £16m deal. But a lack of selection and injuries have restricted Patterson to just 48 appearances in that period since, missing all of the senior campaign so far through injury, but he has appeared at Premier League 2 level.

It’s claimed by the Liverpool Echo that the Scotland international will need to make a ‘big impression’ if he’s to remain at Goodison when returning to the senior fold. It’s also suggested he could be moved on if he fails to make right-back his own before next summer. Seamus Coleman has been a long-standing option in that role with James Garner playing there more recently.

“Patterson is not following that trajectory at all. He’s only made 50 league starts by the time he’s 23 and he’s been in around the first-team for three or four years. That for me is not the pathway of somebody who is going to be an established player given the number of injuries he’s had as well.
“Whether Dyche fancies him or not is also a moot point. It’s going to be difficult, I’m not saying he’s not going to, but it’s going to be difficult with that career history.”
