How close Philippe Clement was to signing Ryan Kent after ‘I got a call’ ex-Rangers winger claim
When Ryan Kent returned to sign for Rangers on a permanent deal it was one of the greatest nights in social media history for fans of the Light Blues.
Fast forward five years and things have changed for fans and the 27-year old winger alike after news broke of his winger’s contract at Fenerbahce being ripped up – a transfer that the sole beneficiary was Kent’s bank account.
With Rangers short of wing options due to injuries to Oscar Cortés and Rabbi Matondo, added to the aborted move for Samuel Edozie, it’s easy to see why Ryan Kent might be a name that makes it onto the desk of the manager for approval.

How close Philippe Clement came to signing Rangers-linked Ryan Kent
If previous actions are anything to go by, it won’t take long for Philippe Clement to rubber stamp a move for Kent, given just how close he came to signing the former Liverpool academy product.
Kent, in his own words, was a matter of hours away from putting pen to paper for the big Belgian instead of Steven Gerrard, as reported by The Scotsman:
“I was pretty close to getting on the flight to Belgium,” said Kent. “I was already checked in and sitting in the departure lounge at Manchester airport. That’s when I got a call from my agent and the gaffer saying ‘Don’t go on the flight’.
“I was getting ready to sign for Brugge. They are in the Champions League and that was one of the main reasons I was heading there. It would have been a big platform for me to showcase myself against the best European clubs.
“It would have been hard if I’d had to go through with the Brugge move. But I knew that as much as I wanted to be here at Rangers, I do have to look after myself as well.”

Will Clement try and sign him again?
That is the question.
