Premier League statement on Ipswich penalty after Everton decision overturned
Ipswich Town were denied a penalty kick after referee Michael Oliver was sent to the monitor for a VAR check against Everton

The Premier League have explained why Ipswich Town were denied a penalty after a VAR check in the clash with Everton at Portman Road. The Toffees were ahead through a goal from Iliman Ndiaye when referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot in the 25th minute.
Dwight McNeil had been adjudged to have fouled Jack Clarke, but in scenes similar to those at Goodison Park in Everton’s previous match when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied a spot-kick against Dan Burn, it was the Ipswich man who appeared to make contact with Everton’s winger.
And so it proved when Oliver was sent to the screen and overturned his initial decision. Everton would double their lead later in the first half after a thumping finish from centre-back Michael Keane.

A tweet read: “The referee awarded a penalty to Ipswich for a foul by McNeil on Clarke. The VAR deemed that Clarke kicked the back of McNeil’s leg and that no foul was committed and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball.”
