Ally McCoist flabbergasted by Rangers claim and gives heavy question about Clement’s future an unflinching answer
The Belgian and his players were booed off and the Ibrox legend offered a searingly honest take
Hurting Ally McCoist strongly rejected any notion Rangers’ stuttering stars should be admonished as he offered a wider audience a peek into the ongoing woe at Ibrox.
Philippe Clement and his players were booed off at Rugby Park following their chastening 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock which leaves them six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen. McCoist was left bruised by the latest setback as he reeled off a list of reasons why Rangers fans are feeling blue about life on and off the pitch.
The Ibrox legend was asked to further explain his opinion on the club he loves and he refused to hold back. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “What do you want me to say, we’re hopeless? We’re not very good. We need to get a bit of stability at the top, straight away, what he (Clement) said after the game was definitely factually correct, but the fact of the matter is, performance levels were poor. Really, really poor.

“From Rangers point of view, there is no chairman at this point in time. John Gilligan is doing his very best, and he will continue to do so, but there is a lack of stability at the top. There is no chief executive, the previous chief executive nipped away to Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, wherever he went. The club, the spine of the club, is not right.”

Despite his myriad of concerns, McCoist jumped all over any notion that couldn’t have been mustered by Clement’s players on Sunday at Rugby Park. He added: “One hundred per cent, don’t take that for a minute, players have got to look at themselves, it was a shocking performance, don’t think I’m sidestepping the issue and not giving the players any stick. Poor midfield, shocking goal to lose and never created nearly enough.”
And on Clement directly, McCoist refused to pin the sole blame on the Belgian as he offered a forthright take on the reality of life at Ibrox. He said: “A couple of things, I don’t think the club are in any position to start getting rid of people. I don’t think they can afford it financially.
“The fact of the matter is this, he has to get better results. Where I would stick up for him a little bit, I am not sure he has been dealt the best hand of cards with the players he has left. The recruitment prior to him coming has been absolutely not nearly good enough.”
