Philippe Clement sidesteps Celtic poser in reaction to Rangers blowing chance to close gap
Rangers manager Philippe Clement will know that the Scottish Premiership defeat to Kilmarnock is unacceptable in any circumstance.
But given the backdrop of both Celtic and Aberdeen dropping points approximately 24 hours previously, for many Gers fans it’s unforgivable.
The abject, uninspired and timid Rangers performance has alarm bells ringing amongst Gers fans who let their stuttering and uninspiring charges know come full-time.
With the pressure building on Philippe Clement, the Rangers manager was not keen to go into questions on the increasing gap between the Ibrox side and their two divisional rivals.

Philippe Clement reacts to Rangers blowing gap chance
Given Celtic and Aberdeen had drawn 2-2 before Rangers’ trip to Kilmarnock, it was a chance to build some Scottish Premiership momentum at a crucial juncture of the season.
But Rangers blew their chance big-time with fans asking why their team produced such an abject display against the backdrop of such momentum-building opportunity.
When asked about the disappointment of failing to capitalise on the Aberdeen and Celtic draw, Clement gave a politician’s answer about having 30 games to go and only six points to bridge.
But if the Rangers manager has learned anything in his 12 months in Glasgow, it’s that momentum is a crucial ingredient to success with fans now bolting for the exits and losing faith in his project in Glasgow.

This wasn’t just any old defeat, and if Clement doesn’t know that then we’re probably more doomed than any of us thought.
“Yeah (I am disappointed),” said Clement when asked about failing to close the gap. “We have 30 games to go, so it’s always disappointing to lose points because we want to win all the games.
“So we’re focused on that.
“There is our disappointment, and also that we cannot build on what the players did the last couple of weeks.
“For example, keeping the clean sheet, what they did in several games, creating the chances and being decisive. So we need to look at ourselves and make things better.
“It’s normal that (fans are) unhappy. There’s not one person in the staff or one person of the players who was happy after this game, after losing. So that’s normal.
“The players showed respect towards the fans, the fans showed what they felt about the results, and that’s a normal thing.
“So it’s about getting back the results on the pitch, that’s the main thing to do, and then the fans go behind you.”
Rangers manager sidesteps haunting Celtic question
Philippe Clement also refused to be drawn on suggestions that his stuttering Rangers team are ‘miles’ behind Celtic at present.
The Rangers boss was asked about comments made by Kris Boyd about the state of the Ibrox team and an increasingly frustrated Clement sidestepped the question.
The Rangers manager insists there is ‘no excuse’ for the abject quality of his team’s performance and claims it’s on him to improve things, and fast.
“I’m not going to go in the comments of everybody who’s talking about the team, so I’m not happy with the result,” said Clement.
“I’m not happy with a lot of parts in the first half, so it’s my job to make that better.
“Kilmarnock always makes it difficult for teams here. Did you need to see more fight from your team? Did they have to battle more? You need to win more duels, which we didn’t do enough in the first half.
“The second half was much better. That’s one part.
“Not only with fights, you win these kinds of games. You need to do much more things than only fight.
“So all credit to Kilmarnock in the way they do it, and that’s why they have also a really good record at home on the pitch here in these circumstances.
“But we need to adapt. There’s no excuse for us.”
