Rangers told to offload James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers in ‘ruthless’ double sale
Mark Guidi has told Rangers to be “ruthless” with James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers and sell them.
The Go Radio pundit believes Tavernier is well past his best and urged the Light Blues to “move him on” despite being a supporter of the player.
He went on to express his sympathy for Dessers but added that the Nigeria international is not good enough to fire the Glasgow giants to league glory.
“Right now, you look through that starting XI and the captain included, [I’ve been] a big supporter of James Tavernier, but his time has come and gone, it’s time to move him on”, Guidi said on The Go Radio Football Show on Monday (21 October).
“Cyriel Dessers, really nice guy, I admire him, but he’s not a title-winning striker.

“I said that in January when Rangers attempted to go and get Lawrence Shankland, Dessers is not a title-winning striker. You need to be ruthless.”
James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers need to be better for Rangers
Guidi’s comments come after Rangers succumbed to a demoralising 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (20 October).
Dessers’ performance at the weekend left a lot to be desired, with Billy Dodds ripping into the 29-year-old for his lack of intent.

Tavernier, meanwhile, provided a threat in attack against Derek McInnes’ side, but has been one of Rangers’ worst players this season overall.
It would not be wrong to say that many Gers fans agree with Guidi in wanting Tavernier and Dessers to play less if not be sold.

Philippe Clement has played Dujon Sterling, a right-back by trade, in midfield whenever available despite increasing shouts to drop Tavernier, while Neraysho Kasanwirjo is also waiting on the sidelines.
Dessers is perhaps lucky to have played as much as he has this season, with Danilo still on his way to regaining full fitness. However, there is a case to be made about Hamza Igamane possibly starting ahead of the Nigerian.
