Philippe Clement, Kevin Muscat, Rangers badgeKevin Muscat should replace Philippe Clement at Rangers
Kevin Muscat shows today why he is perfect Philippe Clement replacement for Rangers
Rangers decided to appoint Philippe Clement over Kevin Muscat in October 2023 – a decision the club are surely now living to regret.
While the Belgian’s days at Ibrox appear numbered after the 2-1 loss against Aberdeen [30 October], Muscat is enjoying success at Shanghai Port, leading the side to a second consecutive Chinese Super League title on Saturday (2 November).
The Australian has claimed the seventh league title of his managerial career, with top-flight crowns from his native Australia with Melbourne City and Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos.
Rangers are a well-documented shambles, and the club will undoubtedly struggle to appoint a top-quality successor for Clement should he be sent packing. Therefore, returning to Muscat could be a calculated risk worth taking.
Rangers should appoint Kevin Muscat if Philippe Clement is sacked
Unfortunately, the supporters are suffering the most throughout all the chaos at Ibrox this season – it is November 2 and any hope of competing for the Scottish Premiership title is all but over.

The Gers faithful can dream of a top-calibre appointment such as Graham Potter. However, this is just not realistic considering the position the side finds itself in.
Therein lies the problem at Rangers – the club is in so much turmoil it is a poisoned chalice for any reputable European manager and it would take a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Ibrox to be considered a desirable destination.
However, Muscat is plying his trade in Asia and thriving. He has yet to find his landing spot in Europe, and better yet, he knows the club inside and out having spent a year of his playing career in Glasgow.

A title-winning pedigree has been missing at the Light Blues since Steven Gerrard packed his bags for Aston Villa. While winning titles outside of Europe may not be the most desirable, it certainly represents a significant upgrade on Clement.
For now, the Belgian is benefiting from the shambles at board level and will be allowed to salvage what remains of the season but, if history is anything to go by, the likelihood is Clement will be waving goodbye to Glasgow in the very near future.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has issued a James Tavernier claim at the Gers.
