The furore over Celtic fans and the minute’s silence continues today as Born Celtic digs out the news archives and finds something of note about Kilmarnock boss, Derek McInnes.
McInnes jumped on his high horse on Sunday to take a swing at the Celtic fans and their protest over the minute’s silence with an inane rant about the moment being ‘ours’, as in Kilmarnock’s.
He’s a strange man sitting there pontificating about respect when in 1999 he was named in a damning report about senior Rangers figures and players taking part in ‘raucous choruses’ of ‘songs of hate’ after Rangers beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup.
Donald Findlay’s ‘bellowing’ anti-Celtic sectarian songbook
The archives of The Free Library still have the original Daily Record report where former Rangers vice-chairman, Donald Findlay, was shamed in 1999 for singing sectarian songs with ex-Rangers players.
The report begins, “Rangers vice-chairman Donald Findlay QC was secretly filmed bellowing sectarian songs full of bigotry and hate at the weekend.

“Findlay, one of Scotland’s leading lawyers, led the singing of anti-Catholic anthems at a private party celebrating the club’s Scottish Cup triumph.
“Seconds before launching into his sickening karaoke session, Findlay prompted guffaws of laughter when he claimed sectarianism had no place at Ibrox.
“Before jokingly asking supporters to keep his secret, he warned: “You have to be very careful or you end up on the front page of the Daily Record.”

The report said, “The Ibrox club’s high-profile Catholic signing Neil McCann, who famously supports Celtic, was pictured near Findlay but remained silent throughout the singing.
“Other Scottish players, including Ian Ferguson and Derek McInnes joined in the raucous choruses.
“Findlay, known for his mutton-chop whiskers and foppish suits, soon launched into another Ibrox favourite Billy Boys.”

Well, well, well. It seems McInnes should really think twice before spouting anything about ‘showing a bit of respect’ when he has a black mark on his name when it comes to willfully taking part in singing about killing Catholics and disrespecting the Pope.
