Jermain Defoe is reportedly eager to make a return to Rangers, with Steven Gerrard on the verge of being named the new Ibrox manager.
The former England striker, who enjoyed a successful spell under Gerrard during the 2020–21 title-winning campaign, is said to be open to reuniting with his former boss in Glasgow. Defoe, now retired from playing, could be set for a coaching role or ambassadorial position if Gerrard completes his anticipated return to Rangers.
Gerrard, who led the club to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade during his previous tenure, is expected to bring back familiar faces as part of his new backroom team. Defoe’s experience and strong connection with the club could make him a valuable addition to the setup as Rangers aim to rebuild after a difficult start to the season.
Talks between Gerrard and the Rangers board are believed to be at an advanced stage, with an official announcement expected soon.
