Rangers transfer claim emerges on Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland
Tony Watt believes that Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland will be a good signing for Rangers.
The Scotland international won the SPFL Golden Boot last season with 24 goals and he has been linked with a move to Ibrox in the January transfer window. [HITC, September]
With his contract at Tynecastle running out at the end of the season, the 29-year-old has admitted that this is likely to be his last season at the club.
Watt told Open Goal on 7 January: “I don’t think he would get a game over Igamane but I don’t think many people would get a game over Igamane.
“It depends on him, if he would go there. I don’t think he would. Maybe he would, I don’t know.
“He is the main man at Hearts. Surely you can get a move where you are going to be the main man elsewhere.
“I think he’s good enough [to play for Rangers]. I think he will score you 20 goals a season. He has shown that, if you get him in the box, he will l score. Hearts relied on him last year and, when he wasn’t scoring, they struggled.
“I think he would be a good signing, but it depends on what his role is going to be.”

Rangers can do better than Lawrence Shankland
Right now, Shankland seems some way away from being the coveted striker he was a year ago.
This season, he’s scored just three goals in 18 league games and there’s a chance he’s past his peak.
If Gers are to sign him, it needs to be on a free transfer and he can be the backup to Hamza Igamane.
Shankland is definitely a better option than Cyriel Dessers and it would make financial sense to sell the Nigeria international and then get the Scotland striker on a free transfer.
However, if the Hearts forward is not open to that, he may have second thoughts about moving to Ibrox to play second fiddle to Igamane.
The good thing for Rangers is that they have time until the summer to wait and see what happens with regards to Shankland.
There are plenty of alternative backup strikers available so it’s not like it will be a catastrophe if Gers do not sign the Scotland forward.
In other Rangers news, the club have been handed a potential boost to seal a January transfer at a bargain fee.
