Rangers to receive letter of apology after controversial Man Utd footage – Hackett

Manchester United should send a letter of apology after a Rangers staff member appeared to be pushed during the celebrations for their late Europa League winner, Keith Hackett has said.

Bruno Fernandes netted in injury time to seal a dramatic 2-1 win for the Red Devils and break Rangers hearts in the Battle of Britain contest at Old Trafford.

 

In footage of the celebrations from TNT Sport, it appeared as though a Rangers physio was shoved by Rasmus Hojlund.

 

Hackett, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, is confident that the United players were unaware of who he was when moving him out of the way.

 

However, the former FIFA referee and ex-PGMOL chief does think it would be suitable for United to write to Rangers an say sorry for the controversy.

He said: “It is possible that the Man United players did not recognise who they were pushing to one side.

 

“It is unfortunate and I hope that Manchester United will write and apologise to the member of Rangers coaching staff.

 

“I do not expect UEFA to take any action.”

In fairness, it does look a little bit innocuous when you see the footage back but it probably would be prudent of United to apologise because it was a little bit unnecessary.

 

You can understand emotions running high after such a high moment of drama, one that felt unthinkably cruel on a Rangers side who had performed so admirably.

Having said that, you still have to be mindful of what’s going on around you and therefore you can understand Hackett’s point of view.

 

But it probably does feel like UEFA won’t intervene any further and a simple “sorry for what happened” would suffice for all parties.
