Following the recent dismissal of Philippe Clement as Rangers’ manager after a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, club legend Ally McCoist has expressed his willingness to return to Ibrox as Clement’s replacement. McCoist, 62, humorously remarked that he would abandon his numerous media commitments to take up the managerial role, stating, “I’d drop everything for Rangers.” Despite his surprise at being considered a contender, he acknowledged the difficulty of leaving his radio colleague, Jeff Stelling, but emphasized his readiness to serve the club he previously managed from 2011 to 2014.
In the interim, former captain Barry Ferguson has been appointed as head coach until the end of the season. Ferguson, who captained Rangers to a domestic treble in the 2002-03 season, will be supported by a coaching team comprising Issame Charai, Neil McCann, Billy Dodds, and Allan McGregor. The club’s CEO, Patrick Stewart, expressed gratitude towards Clement and his team for their dedication and stated that the search for a permanent manager is underway as part of an ongoing football review aimed at addressing deeper issues within the club.
McCoist has also been vocal about the team’s recent performances, criticizing Rangers for being “weak” both on and off the pitch. He emphasized the significant gap between Rangers and league leaders Celtic, highlighting the need for substantial investment and improved player standards to compete effectively.
