In the midst of a disappointing campaign, the attention of the Ibrox diehards has already turned to to who will step into the dugout on a permanent basis. Record Sport understands that the consortium that are bidding to buy a controlling stake in the Light Blues – which is led by American businessman Andrew Cavenagh along with Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, the main man behind NFL giants San Francisco 49ers’ investment wing – are already considering the next potential management options. It is understood that the consortium are planning to speak to candidates in the coming weeks following the completion of the takeover – which has been agreed in principle. Muscat was interviewed for the Rangers job after Michael Beale was axed following two successful seasons with Yokohama F. Marinos – but the decision-makers at Ibrox opted to go with Clement.
Since then, Muscat has gone on to lift a league and cup double in China – but he has hinted that his focus remains in Asia. Defeat to Marinos in their final league phase game leaves the club clinging to their qualification spot for the next round of the Champions League – with Pohang Steelers two points behind and with a game to play. Speaking to Titan Sports after the 1-0 defeat, the boss was keep to look forward stating: “Today, we created chances, and we are making progress—we hadn’t been able to create chances before. Considering the quality of the opposition’s players, they are quite strong. “But today, we did manage to create opportunities.
