Sheffield United star responds to Premier League question after £13m Leeds United transfer snub

Leeds United missed out on signing the creative midfielder in the summer.  It is no secret Leeds United would have loved to have added Gustavo Hamer to their attacking ranks in the summer transfer window. The Championship leaders had a £13m bid turned down for the Sheffield United playmaker.

Brazilian-born Hamer has been one of the Blades’ standout performers during the 2024/25 campaign, contributing five assists and seven goals in their promotion tilt. His swashbuckling performances have earned him rave reviews as the 27-year-old looks to help lead Sheffield United back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.  two points off Leeds after 37 matches but with vastly inferior goal difference. Speaking with Dutch outlet Viaplay Sport, Hamer said: “Yeah, yeah, I think so [that I belong in the Premier League]. I think that I can definitely handle it, personally.   “Because, well, we played in the Premier League last year of course, and I’ve already been able to show myself a bit in terms of scoring goals, creating chances and all that, things like that. So yeah, I do think I belong in the Premier League myself.”  A new No 10 to compete with Brenden Aaronson for a starting spot will be on the agenda for the Whites going into next season. They were heavily linked with a move for Emi Buendia in the winter window but the Aston Villa attacker ended up joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

Leeds will be looking to take another giant step towards promotion when they visit Queens Park Rangers tomorrow lunchtime, kick-off 12:30pm.
