Disaster for Leeds United as Bournemouth plan to break the ice with opening offer for 49ers target
Leeds United and Bournemouth have some history, sort of… In 2023, the Whites wanted to hire the current Cherries boss Andoni Iraola, who’s proved to be a hit on the south coast.
Leeds United are aiming to join Bournemouth in the Premier League next season. If they succeed in doing so then the Cherries could be one of the toughest games of the season for Daniel Farke’s side.
As things stand, Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth sit in 10th place of the Premier League table right now. They’re just three points behind Newcastle United in 6th and five behind Chelsea in 4th. The club could yet be competing in Europe next season, 15 years after they were promoted from League Two.
Iraola has been a hit at the club and it might leave a sour taste at Elland Road after Leeds United tried to hire Iraola in 2023 after sacking Jesse Marsch. Iraola revealed that he spoke with Leeds but that talks were somewhat fleeting.
Right now, Farke’s Leeds are in 1st place of the Championship table but level on points with Sheffield United in 2nd, after drawing 2-2 at QPR over the weekend.

Bournemouth plan to make first move for Leeds United target Caoimhin Kelleher
One position that Leeds look set to bolster in the summer is in goal. Illan Meslier has faced criticism this season for making a string of individual errors leading to goals, and Liverpool and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been named as one of several targets, alongside the likes of Aaron Ramsdale.
Leeds United have been linked with Kelleher throughout the season. But it’s been no secret that he has interest from several Premier League clubs with Chelsea notably making Kelleher a summer transfer target.
Now, an emerging report from The Sun has revealed that Bournemouth plan on making the first move for Kelleher ahead of the summer. The same report also states that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United fancy the 26-year-old.

Interestingly, The Sun state that Kelleher ‘does not regard’ playing European football next season as ‘essential’ in deciding his next move.

Liverpool forced into cut-price sale of Caoimhin Kelleher this summer
Kelleher is desperate to leave Anfield tis summer and Liverpool won’t stand in his way either. And given the situation, Liverpool look set to accept a cut-price for the goalkeeper this summer despite previous reports that he’s valued at £30million.
It’s now being claimed that Liverpool want £20milion for Kelleher this summer. But that in turn might be a ploy to attract more clubs and spark a bidding war, which could in turn push the final price towards £30million.
The likes of Leeds could yet miss out then, especially with Bournemouth planning a move before Leeds even know what division they’ll be playing in next season.
But there’s no doubt that Meslier could do with replacing this summer, and that Kelleher would be a great replacement.
